Alan L. Mccumber

August 17, 1945 — March 11, 2024

Alan LeRoy McCumber, 78, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 11, 2024. His family is deeply saddened by his unexpected passing.

Alan was born on August 17, 1945, to Lucile and Ralph R. McCumber, Sr. in Manchester, Georgia. After Alan graduated from Druid Hills High School in 1963, he went on to study Finance at Georgia State University. After his freshman year in college, he joined the Navy for four years during the Vietnam War.

Following his service in the Navy, he continued his education, receiving his degree in Accounting at Georgia State University. After his graduation, he started his first job at Touche Ross & Company as a CPA, kickstarting a 45 year career in finance. His professional career included multiple positions in the financial world, concluding with Georgia Baptist Children's Home in 2018.

Fondly known as Pappy by his grandchildren and many friends, his love for children was evident through his entire life. Whether it was taking his granddaughters for pedicures, watching baseball games for his grandsons, or traveling to the Stapleton farm for visits, his family was his first priority. He always loved dogs and a good Ralph Lauren shirt.

Alan was predeceased by his mother and father. He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Clark (Matt), and Allison Stapleton (Scott), brothers, Ralph R. McCumber, Jr. and Jerry D. McCumber (Cathy), and grandchildren; Alec, Taylor, Luke, Margeaux, Levi, Jack, Jennifer, and Kennedy along with nephews; Eric Jensen and Ben McCumber and niece; Mary Melson.

Services will be held on Sunday, March 17, at 2:00, at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home (2773 North Decatur Road), with an informal visitation following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Georgia Baptist Children's Home, an organization Alan cared strongly for.
