Alice Evans Boyd, aged 98, passed away in Atlanta on Friday, June 6th, 2025. Born in New York, NY on July 26, 1926, to Gerardine Ogilby and Albert Edwin Evans, Alice spent her early years in Briarcliff Manor, NY. She graduated from Furman University in 1948 with a BA in psychology and sociology.
In 1958, Alice moved to Atlanta, where she became a devoted homemaker and mother to four children. Known as a "professional volunteer," she dedicated her life to community service and horticulture. Alice held various leadership positions in local, state, and national garden clubs and rose organizations. Notably, she served a remarkable 28-year term on the Garden Club of Georgia Board of Directors and was an active member of the DeKalb Federation for over 50 years.
Alice was a National Garden Club Master Flower Show Judge and an American Rose Society Master Horticulture and Arrangement Judge. Her outstanding service to the American Rose Society earned her the prestigious Silver Honor Medal after 26 years of dedication.
As a charter member of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and a founding member of Briarcliff United Methodist Church, Alice played a significant role in the community. She was known for her beautiful Christmas and Easter decorations that adorned the church sanctuary each year. Additionally, she delivered Meals-On-Wheels for 25 years to homebound residents around Atlanta.
Alice's greatest joys were her family, church, and garden activities. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years, Fleming "Bud" Boyd, in 2015.
