Alice Hsu

September 24, 1928 — April 3, 2024

Alice Hsu was born in 1928 as Hsien-Hua Chang in the city of Shaxi, Hubei Province in China. The youngest of five children of a prominent family, she emigrated to Taiwan with her sister and third brother when the Communists took control of China. Since childhood Alice was exceptionally close with her only sister and they remained so throughout their lives.

In Taiwan she met and married William S.L. Hsu, then the confidential secretary to General Sun Li Ren of Nationalist China. Subsequently they moved to the United States with their daughters. Alice loved the vibrancy of New York City. Within a month of arriving in the U.S. she had mastered the New York Subway system and took her daughters to double features at Times Square each weekend. Alice continued her long career with the Taiwan-based Central Trust of China in New York City. She loved her job and was a respected and valued member of Central Trust until her retirement.

Most of all Alice loved her husband and her daughters. She missed her husband dreadfully and longed for him each and every day since he passed. Late in her life Alice moved to Georgia to a senior community close to her younger daughter. There she met caring friends and lived a full and active life until passing away peacefully on April 3, 2024. Alice is survived by her two beloved daughters Kitty and Judy and sons-in-law Richard and Walter; her cherished nephews and nieces in the U.S., Hong Kong and Canada; and her treasured cousins in China.

There is a hole in our hearts that will never be filled. We take comfort in knowing mom is in heaven with our loving father, aunt and uncles.
