Alton Bobby Maxwell went to be with his Creator on September 6, 2022 at the age of 87. Alton was a devoted and loving Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Uncle and friend.
Alton was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Rush Moore and Era Ezzie Maxwell on October 6, 1934 and lived in Atlanta for all of his life. He attended Bass High School, and lettered in football. He started his career as a copyboy at the Atlanta Journal and Constitution, receiving a treasured letter of recommendation from then Sports Editor Furman Bisher. Afterwards, Alton went to work at Southeastern Engraving, and there learned the things he would need to know to follow his dream of being a self-employed professional photographer. Alton photographed countless weddings and hundreds of Little League baseball teams, High School sports, and yearbooks. Alton and his wife, Gloria, travelled extensively through his photography work for large companies like Rollins and Texaco.
Alton is survived by his children, Mike Maxwell, Cheryl Norman, and Mark (Janis) Maxwell; his grandchildren, Alicia Norman Campbell, Rush Maxwell, Morgan Maxwell, and Brooks Maxwell; his great grandchildren, Lydia Lane Campbell and Georgia Grace Campbell, and many cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as many good friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gloria Wright Maxwell, his brothers, Edgar, James, Carl and Blake, his sisters, Alice Jackson and Mary Nell Smith, and his son-in-law Lane Norman.
A celebration of his life will be held at A. S. Turner and Sons in Decatur, Georgia on Friday, September 16th, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a burial service at Green Lawn Cemetery, Roswell, Georgia. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 p.m., prior to the celebration.
