Amy Jo Buchart

Amy Jo Wooten Buchart was born on November 21, 1956, to Zack Edward and Ann Rousseau Wooten. Amy was the oldest of Zack and Ann's three children: Amy, Andrew, and David.

Amy was raised in Memphis, Tennessee. Knowing from the age of 6 that she was going to be a nurse, Amy graduated high school from Harding Academy, went on to the University of Mississippi for her undergraduate degree (she was a die-hard "Rebel"), and continued on to fulfill her childhood dream by earning a nursing degree.

With her nursing certification, Amy began a nearly 40-year career serving children and providing world class cancer care to under-resourced families from around the world at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. Working in the Medicine Room at St. Jude, Amy met her best friend, Darlene, with whom Amy would spend decades walking through life's happiness and tragedy until Darlene passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2013.

Amy met Jack Buchart in 1988. Jack and Amy remained together for 38 years, living out the vows of "for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do us part." In 2022, Jack and Amy moved together to Jack's home state, Georgia, to be closer to his daughter and extended family, having spent the previous decades in Memphis closer to Amy's family. At their "farmhouse" in Duluth, Jack and Amy relished the "country" lifestyle, feeding deer and birds, breathing in the natural air, and watching lots and lots and lots and lots of NASCAR.

Amy was the best encourager. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion. Amy was a provider, a caretaker, a survivor, she never gave up on anyone, she went without so others wouldn't have to, she was gentle, funny, she laughed with all her heart, and she loved with every bone in her body-most of all, her family, who she spent every moment thinking about and praying for. Amy demonstrated the depth of her love and servant's heart when she took leave from her job at St. Jude to provide 24-hour care for her mother. Amy loved Jesus and held on closely to a joyful anticipation of her future home in heaven.

Amy Jo Wooten Buchart passed away on Friday night, September 18, 2026 with friends and family all over the country loving her, missing her, and praying for her. She is survived by her husband, Jack Buchart; her sons, Stephen (Marissa) and Richard Sims; her step-daughter, Laura; and a whole host of friends and family celebrating that Amy is in heaven now, singing hymns with her dearly missed Grandma Holman.
