Anne Mathews Speer

August 29, 1931 — January 4, 2024

Mrs. Anne Mathews Speer of Atlanta passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024. Anne was a devoted Georgia Tech fan, a member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, a homemaker and later in life became a devoted preschool teacher. Known as "Ms. Anne", she taught preschool until she was 89 years old. She was well-known in her community for attending the many sporting events for her grandchildren, and playing tennis and bridge with her friends of many years.


Anne is predeceased by her husband, Frank Roy Speer, Jr. She is survived by her children Pam and Scott Reynolds, Frank and Janet Speer, Sharon Daoust, Susan and Randy Holt. Grandchildren include Dr. Brent and Renae Speer, Claire and Patrick Blake, George Reynolds and fiancé Beth Cochran, Stephanie and Mike Harris, Alice and Patrick Wilson, Kelsey Daoust, Mary and Patrick Scully, Sarah and Ryan Swanger, Lauren Daoust, Nathaniel and Brittney Holt, Nicholas and Rachel Holt, and Matthew and Amanda-Ruth Holt. Twelve great grandchildren also survive their Grandmom: Lila Speer, Margot Speer, Daphne Speer, Wren Blake, Shea Blake, Mac Wilson, Emerson Wilson, Ellie Harris, Charlie Harris, John Frank Daoust, Saoirse Walkey and Astrid Holt. Anne is also survived by her brother, Leroy and Jeanne Mathews and numerous nephews.

The family would like to thank AG Rhodes for their care over the last few years and Agape Hospice for their care the last week. The family will have a private graveside service.
