Avery Severt Jr., 95, Of Atlanta, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on March 23, 2026. Avery was born in Marion, Virginia, December 26, 1930. He was the son of the late Avery Severt Sr. and Roxey Bernice Severt. He is survived by his wife Betty of 72 years. He is also survived by daughter, Mimi Maulella and grandson, Hunter Maulella of Howard Beach, New York. He is also survived by one sister, Betty Rouse of Chilhowie, Virginia, and one brother, James Severt of Martinsville, Virginia. He is also survived by many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Avery served in the Korean War, was seriously injured and completely lost the use of his right arm. He had to learn to write with his left hand. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He spent thirteen months in Walter Reed Hospital. He went back to school and received his degree in accounting. He worked thirty-seven years for Equifax as an Auditor. Everything had to be hand written as this was before computers.
Avery loved gardening and especially growing roses. He also enjoyed golf and bridge.
Avery was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church for over fifty years. He was a member of the Graydon (Faith) Sunday School class. He was an usher and worked in the Sunday School Office for over fifty years.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 2:00 pm, at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, in Decatur, Georgia. A reception will follow in the Grand Hall.
Contributions may be made in memory of Avery Severt, to the Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
