Ben M. Smith III (70), beloved brother, father, and grandfather passed away on February 11th, 2019. He was born in Decatur, graduated from Chamblee High School (1966), and attended the University of Georgia where he was a member of the ATO fraternity. In his professional life, Ben worked or owned Millwork Companies across the South East, before selling and retiring from WINDOR of Mullins, S.C. As a native Georgian and a “Damn Good Dawg”, he moved to Brunswick, GA after retirement.
The only thing he loved more than Georgia football was his family. No golf course existed he didn't want to play, no beach he didn't want to stroll down, and no ear (stranger or not) he didn't want to bend. Until his end, he claimed to make the world's best clam chowder and country ribs. While that might be in doubt, none who knew him would ever doubt that he had the best laugh on the planet: it was loud, came from the deepest parts of him, and was never governed. This laugh, just like the way he lived his life, was unashamed, open, and released upon the world with such joy it was infectious.
Ben is survived by his siblings, Joye, Larry, and Tim; his former wife, Nancy; his children, Tripp and Jason; and his grandchildren, Jackson, Tobin, Hayden, Raney, and Graham.
