In Loving Memory of Betty Ruth Lewis Moody
March 6, 1935 - May 18, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Ruth Lewis Moody, age 90, on May 18, 2025, in her home in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Born on March 6, 1935, in Galveston, Texas, Betty was the beloved daughter of George and Irma Lewis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren G. Moody, and her parents.
Betty is survived by her three devoted children: Randy (Joanne) Moody of Dunwoody, GA; Bobby (Deborah) Moody of Ocala, FL; and Wendy (Walter) Moody Grage of Snellville, GA. She also leaves behind her loving sister, Joyce Boese of Dallas, TX.
She was a cherished grandmother to Stefanie Moody Mitchell (Charlotte, NC), Aaron Moody (Atlanta, GA), Robin Moody Matthews (Brookhaven, GA), Scott Moody (Brookhaven, GA), Austin Grage, and Jared Grage (both of Snellville, GA). Betty was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.
In her youth, Betty was an accomplished athlete, excelling in basketball and volleyball. She graduated as valedictorian from Dominican Catholic Girls High School in Galveston. Her lifelong passion for health and movement led her to become an IDEA Certified fitness instructor, teaching aerobics for many years and inspiring others to stay active.
Betty had a deep love for music, dancing, and dogs, and she carried a joyful spirit wherever she went. A world traveler at heart, her passport was a testament to her adventurous nature and curiosity for cultures beyond her own.
Her faith and community service were guiding lights throughout her life. In the late 1960s and 1970s, she became an integral part of Saint Thomas More Catholic Church and School in Decatur, GA. There, she volunteered as Assistant Athletic Director and girls' basketball coach, leading her team to numerous championship appearances and a memorable win in 1972-a proud legacy still honored in the school's trophy case.
Later in life, Betty continued her service at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Stone Mountain, GA. She volunteered tirelessly and eventually worked as the School of Religion Registrar, dedicating her time and energy to the church community she so deeply loved.
Betty will be remembered as an extraordinary mother, grandmother, sister, and friend-devoted, loving, and full of life.
