Listen to Obituary

Brenda "Sue" Thore age 79 passed away Friday August 14 at Emory Hospital in Decatur Georgia with her friend and caregiver Desiree Powell by her side.

She was born the first of 4 children to Avahlee Williard Thore and James Swain Thore in Winston-Salem North Carolina on July 2, 1947. The family grew up in a farming community with ties to Baptist and Moravian churches and had a great love of working hard and learning. Sue excelled in both areas, with undergraduate and graduate degrees from UNC-Greensboro and UNC-Chapel Hill. Her education included 2 trips to France, one as a student and one teaching English to French schoolchildren.

Sue felt fortunate to have spent the last several years with her life partner, Duane Anthony Fulk in their home in Decatur. They shared that love of learning and enjoyed traveling up and down the East Coast visiting family and friends along the way. They always had time for art museums and book stores. She was an accomplished crafter, enjoying making custom greeting cards and jewelry for gifts.

Sue had a great love of animals in general and dogs in particular, having had multiple canine companions over the years, ending up with 2 poms, Tobi and Scout. She founded and operated Merry Puppins, an exclusive pet care company that included transporting rescue dogs with Duane's help to their forever homes.

She is survived by her 3 siblings, Sarah Thore Hammond of Chapel Hill NC, Jane Thore Hardy of East Bend NC and James Swain Thore Jr of Kernersville NC. Her survivors also include multiple nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews who will miss the opportunity to get to know their Aunt Sue better.

Sue was predeceased by her parents, Avahlee and Jim, as well as her life partner, Duane.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Sue's name to the Humane Society of Decatur and Macon County.
