Dr. Brigitte (Bee) Buchmann Nahmias, 94, passed away on October 24, 2026. Bee was the matriarch of her family in Atlanta, GA, where her three children, Cindy Connor (Brad), David Nahmias (Linda), and Eddy Nahmias (Cheryl), and her eight grandchildren, Sean, Alex, Olivia, Steven, Michael, Lucas, Sam, and Eve, all live. Each of them was able to share their love with Grandbee in her final days.
Bee was born in Kiel, Germany on June 30, 1932, and immigrated to America with her parents, Erich and Klara Buchmann, after WW II in 1948. She learned English and excelled in school, earning her BA from George Washington (GW) University. She was then one of the first women to graduate from GW Medical School in 1957, where she met her first husband, Dr. Andre Nahmias, an immigrant from Egypt. Bee helped thousands of patients as a physician at St. Joseph's and the Fulton County Health Department for over 40 years, and also created a medical video production company. She later married Don Norton (who pre-deceased her). Dr. Nahmias published her memoir in 2017, Shrapnel in the Piano: A Family in Germany Before, During, and After World War II.
Beyond her professional life and life-long learning, Bee was a painter and an accomplished musician, playing piano, cello, and recorder, with her friends and family. She loved nature and gardening, feeding birds, and her many pet dogs and cats. She travelled around the world. She was active in her children's PTA, the Unitarian Universalist church (UUCA), and environmental groups. Those who knew Bee describe her as a trailblazer, smart and curious, gracious and kind, honest and sensible, warm and loving.
Grandbee's home was always the most comfortable and joyful place for her family to spend their time, especially on holidays. She was an inspiration and a role model to her many friends and her family, who will hold a private memorial for her.
