Charles Tilton DeMars, Sr.

October 3, 1934 - July 18. 2026

Mr. Charles Tilton DeMars, Sr., 91, passed away peacefully in his home on July 18, 2026. Born October 3, 1934 in Savannah, Georgia, Charles was the youngest of four children born to the late Eloise Varnedoe DeMars and Clarence John DeMars, Sr.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda. Charles is survived by his five children, Laura DeMars, Elizabeth Graham (Pepper), Charles "Chuck" DeMars, Jr. (Kim-Tai), Ashton DeMars, and Clarence DeMars, III; his grandchildren, Natalie Graves (Shane), Henry Graham, Matthew DeMars, Jack Graham, and Julia Graham; his cat, Felicity; and a large extended family including his cherished nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Savannah High School, he graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in architecture. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in

Germany. He met his future wife, Linda Chapman, at a house party at his apartment at "The Palazzo"AKA The Dump. Charles and Linda were wed at All Saints Episcopal Church and were married for 56 years.

Charles worked as an architect at Cooper Carry, co-founded DeMars & Hofmann, consulted with Heery International, Lockwood Greene, Honey Baked Ham, and later was the official archivist for the Fulton County School System.

Charles was active in the Atlanta community as a founder of the Uptown Neighborhood Association, served on the board of the Atlanta Public Library, volunteered during the 1996, Atlanta Olympics and Peachtree Road Races. He was a strong advocate for intown Atlanta living, planting trees, and urban design.

Charles will be remembered for his love of family, BBC Mysteries, leading his family on tours of Savannah and the Big Tree, advice on loading dishwashers and decorating Christmas trees, his early epic Halloween parties, collecting art, china, and books, gardening, and home renovations.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregiving team whose compassion, skill, and gentle presence brought comfort and dignity to Charles's final years.

Funeral services will take place Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at 11:00 AM at All Saints Episcopal Church, 634 West Peachtree St. NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30308. Reception to follow in

Ellis Hall. Interment of ashes ceremony will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Bonaventure Cemetery, 330 Bonaventure Rd, Savannah, Georgia 31404.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following charities that Charles supported: The

Atlanta Union Mission, The Frazer Center, and the Special Olympics of Georgia. Donations can
also be sent to All Saints Episcopal Church Building and Grounds Committee Discretionary Fund.
