Charles Anton Moran
March 10, 1948 - July 27, 2025
Charles Anton Moran, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong resident of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, at the age of 77. He was the son of the late Charles Moran, Sr. and Rachel Moore.
Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 26 years, Sylvia Stephenson Moran; his son, Sean Moran; grandsons, Aden Moran and Collin Moran; his stepdaughter, Angie Messner; granddaughters, Savanna Messner and Avery Grace Messner; and his sisters, Rachel (Toni) Williams of Dacula, GA, and Mollie Carow of Athens, GA. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve, Charles dedicated 32 years of his career to DeKalb County, retiring as Manager of Land Acquisitions. He later lent his expertise as a consultant for PBS&J Engineering.
Known for his passion for sports, Charles was an avid fan of University of Georgia football and baseball and served as a high school football referee for over 15 years. He was also a season ticket holder of the Atlanta Falcons. He took immense joy in watching his granddaughters play softball and volleyball, rarely missing a game. A true Atlantan, Charles loved the history of his city and remained a lifelong resident of the Atlanta area.
Charles's warmth, dedication, and love for his family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, August 7th at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 12:00 until 1:45 with the memorial service immediately following at 2:00 in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a local youth sports organization in his honor.
