Charles Daniel Piper, I, of Gainesville, Georgia, aged 92, passed away, Saturday, August 30, 2025, in Gainesville, Georgia, surrounded by his loving family.
Daniel was born February 27, 1933, in McDonough, Georgia, first born of the children of Loy Leo Piper and Vera Smith Piper.
Daniel served in the United States Army from 1953 - 1955, near the end of the Korea war. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.
After returning home to Atlanta, Daniel began working at the Acme Bonded Warehouse (now Atlanta bonded Warehouse) on Howell Mill Road. The large, controlled temperature warehouse received, stored, and shipped thousands of pallets of chocolate candy and gum weekly from major manufacturers such as Hershey's, M & M's, Mars. Daniel had a career there of 40 years.
In 1955, Daniel was introduced to the love of his life, Ann Bailey Piper, by his cousin Juanita Pope. Everyone that knew them knew that they were true soul mates. They did everything together, everything. It was rare to see them apart. Daniel and Ann's love story is the kind that will never end. When Ann began experiencing Alzheimer's, Daniel took care of her alone, by choice, until her death. He was determined to take care of his beloved wife as he had all his married life.
Their life together was family centered. They always worked as a team in providing opportunities. for the family and grounding them in their Christian faith. They were blessed with a daughter, Vickie Spratling and a son, Charles (Danny) Piper and four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Wonderful memories were also made with the family from their beach vacations, trips together and fun parties at home with their relatives and friends.
Being sports lovers, Paw Paw introduced the grandchildren to pool, ping pong and other home games and they attended all the grandchildren's sporting events. They followed their favorite teams, the GA Tech Yellow Jackets and Atlanta Falcons for the rest of their lives...keeping up with the stats on the players. Both Daniel and Ann also played tennis into their senior years and. continued to keep up with all the national and international tennis teams, calling the players by name.
They were avid fans of Elvis Presley, loved his "rock and roll" music and gospel music as well. One of their favorite pastimes was attending his concerts when he was in the area and sharing their diverse collection of Elvis's memorabilia.
The children summed up Daniel's life best: "As a father, Daniel's actions and behaviors served as valuable life lessons which will live within us. He served as a role model for all as he treated everyone with kindness and respect."
