Christopher "Chris" Gomez, age 25, of Savannah, Georgia, died on the morning of Thursday, August 14, 2026, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, surrounded by his family. Chris was born December 2, 2000, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Paige Harris and Jody Gomez. He grew up on Wilmington Island, Georgia, where he enjoyed playing on the beach, racing outside with his dog Jack-Jack to check out the military aircraft flying over, and at his home in Atlanta, GA where he loved hanging out with his Nana and Papa, cooking and eating great food, and taking care of his pugs.
Chris graduated from Islands High School in 2019, and attended UGA in Athens, where he studied engineering. His many hobbies and interests included cars, space, photography, cooking, and airplanes. He was an aspiring pilot, having taken flight lessons, including soloing and acrobatic flight training, and had made progress toward getting his private pilot's license.
He was a server, work that suited him: his kindness showed through before customers knew anything else about him, and he quickly became a favorite among his regulars. That same warmth carried into his closer relationships: he asked about people, made time for them, and paid attention to what they cared about. He paired it with a sharp sense of humor, the kind that meant a steady stream of joking texts his family and friends will miss. Chris embraced the world, always learning something new, chasing an adventure, or just enjoying time with friends.
He is survived by his mother, Paige Harris of Savannah, GA; his father, Jody Gomez of Decatur, GA; his step-mother, Lydia Gomez; his step-father, Charles (Chuck) Bridges; his grandparents Natalie Harris, Mary & George (Sparks) Frederick, and Tassie Gomez; his uncle Darren Gomez; his cousins Lynn & John Moses and their children, MacKinsey & Kaylee; his cousins Brooke & Brian Harris and their children, Benjamin, Cora, and Finn; and his cousin Charlotte Gomez.
A celebration of life will be held in Savannah on September 12. Details to be provided once confirmed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to the Emory-affiliated Addiction Alliance of Georgia.
