David Wesley Bishop, 92, of Atlanta, GA, passed away peacefully at his home on July 31, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. A proud seventh-generation Georgian (through his Harris grandparents) and twelfth-generation American, he was the only child of George Wesley Bishop and Mildred Stephenson of Athens and Toccoa, GA. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of deep faith, David led a life marked by integrity, service, and quiet strength.
Born on January 22, 1933, David graduated from Toccoa High in Toccoa, GA in 1950 and from the University of Georgia in 1954 with a BBA in Accounting. He was a member of Chi Phi fraternity and a lifelong fan of Bulldog football. After college, he served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It was there that he met the love of his life, Dorothy. They married in 1957 and began their life together in Atlanta, where they shared 68 wonderful years.
David built a distinguished career as a Certified Public Accountant and business consultant. Early in his career, he worked with Arthur Young & Company and was a partner with Wolf and Company before joining Price Waterhouse as a Healthcare Consulting Service Leader. Later he founded a successful individual consulting practice serving healthcare clients in ten states before retiring at age 83. Known for his wisdom, honesty, and practical insight, David was deeply respected by colleagues and clients alike.
David came to know Christ when he was born again in 1987 at age 54 and his life thereafter was defined by his unwavering faith. As a longtime member of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Dunwoody, he was baptized there and served in the church's Stephen Ministry, offering guidance and compassion to those in need. He found God's presence not only in prayer, worship, and service to others, but also in the natural world-especially while hiking in the mountains or tending his rhododendrons, hydrangeas, and azaleas.
David was a steadfast and loving presence to his family and is survived by his wife Dorothy, their three children-daughters Leslie and Suzanne, and son George-and his grandson William (Liz) and granddaughter Caroline (Mike).
A funeral service celebrating David's life will be held at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Atlanta, Georgia. When details become final, they will be shared with family and friends. A very touching private interment service was held Wednesday August 06, 2025 in Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens, GA.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to St. Patrick's Episcopal Church or to The Salvation Army of Atlanta, if desired.
David's life was one of grace, service, and enduring love-his presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
