Diane Elrod

Diane Wilkes Elrod went home to our Saviour on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. Born in Atlanta September 1938. A fractured wrist during her first weeks of college led to Diane's 48 year career as a Registered Nurse. Diane earned a diploma in nursing from The Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing and a B.S. in Business/Hospital Administration from Georgia State University. Diane began her wonderful career in nursing in the Emergency Department and Medical and Surgical specialties at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. The majority of her career was at Egleston Hospital for Children in Atlanta, GA where she always said she had the best staff and colleagues in the world! After retirement Diane worked for the State of Georgia where she traveled the state for the Office of Regulatory Services assisting health care facilities in compliance with state and federal regulations. After her second retirement, Diane traveled, with Don, family, friends and Seniors on the Go, locally, nationally and internationally. Diane has been a lifelong Methodist and member of Mountain Park United Methodist Church for 47 years.

Diane was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Wallace Donald Elrod; her parents, William L. Sr. and Mary Patton Wilkes; her sister, Carol Anita Wilkes. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Lyn Byers (Scott) of Lenoir City, Tennessee; her son, David Elrod (Tiffanie) of Bluffton, SC; her much loved "favorite" oldest grandson, Brandon Scott Byers of Zurich, Switzerland; her much loved "favorite" youngest grandson, Cameron Duncan Byers of New York City; her much loved "favorite" granddaughter, Ashlyn Elrod of Bluffton, SC; sister, Helen Wilkes Pierce of LaGrange, GA, brother, William Lawrence Wilkes, Jr (Jane) of Atlanta, GA.

A funeral service will be held on May 8th, 2025, at 10:30am at A. S. Turner & Sons Decatur, GA. Those wishing to make a donation in Diane's memory: Mountain Park United Methodist Church Stone Mountain, GA.
