Dianne Honeycutt Mcafee

October 6, 1940 — June 8, 2009

Dianne McAfee, of Eatonton, Georgia, died June 8, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with cervical cancer.  She was preceded in death by her father, Paul L. Honeycutt , her mother, Edith Folsom Honeycutt and her brother, Danny Honeycutt.  Dianne is survived by her husband of 24 years, Douglas C. McAfee; daughter, Cathy Clayton, and her husband, Michael Hussey; granddaughters, Olivia Hussey and Sarah Hussey; grandson, Matthew Hussey, all of Athens GA; stepsons, David McAfee of Atlanta GA and Edward McAfee of Kannapolis NC; sister-in-law, Theresa Honeycutt Byrd of Monroe GA.  Dianne was born at Emory University Hospital on October 6, 1940 and graduated from Decatur High School in 1958.   She graduated from Georgia State University with a B.A. in English.  She went to work in the 1970's for Decatur Federal Savings and Loan, which was acquired by First Union Bank, which was acquired by Wachovia Bank.  She survived all the buy-outs and worked there for 33 years until retirement.  While living in Decatur, she attended Decatur First United Methodist Church, where she was a soloist in the choir for 50 years. Dianne was active on the Administrative Board, where she served as secretary.  Also, she served on the Worship Committee as well as the Stephen Ministry.  She was very active in the drama department and acted in many of the dinner theaters, which was her service to the Lord.  After meeting and marrying Doug in 1985, they combined their respective families into one and have lived happily and spiritually together ever since.  After retirement, she and Doug moved in 2003 to Lake Oconee and became members of Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church, where she was, again, active in the choir and became interim Choir Director for three years.  While there, Dianne formed and directed the Bell Choir.  She loved music and loved the people with whom she came in contact, especially at church.  Dianne loved the Lord the most.  In lieu of flowers, please send a contribution to the Music Department, Decatur First UMC, 300 E. Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur GA 30030 or to Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church, 113 Scott Rd, Eatonton GA 31024.  A memorial service at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church will be held 11 am, Saturday, June 13, 2009.  Dr. Joe King will officiate and visitation will be one hour prior in the church.  A memorial service at Decatur First United Methodist Church will be held 3 pm, Sunday, June 14, 2009.  Dr. David S. Naglee will officiate and visitation will be one prior in the church.  Burial of the urn will take place immediately following the service in the church Memory Gardens.  A. S. Turner and Sons.
