Listen to Obituary

Dianne Whitmire Orr was received into eternity by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Dianne was born and grew up in the Northlake area of DeKalb County, Georgia, the eldest child of Dan and Carolyn Whitmire. She graduated from Henderson High School in 1984 and received her bachelor's degree from the University of West Georgia in 1988. She obtained her Series 7 securities license and managed investment accounts prior to starting a family.

Dianne's faith in Christ was the most important part of her life. She was everybody's prayer warrior by dedicating time every day to pray for people from all areas of her life. She sought God first in everything and taught others how to pray for both the big and the small things in life. Her life, from beginning to end, was saturated with prayer.

She always relied on God's strength and frequently told her husband and kids that "Before you do anything, talk to God about it!"

Dianne found great joy in memorizing Scripture. She deeply loved the Word of God and took deliberate time to write it on her heart. She was in the process of memorizing Psalm 119, the longest chapter of the Bible, having memorized over 100 of its 176 verses.

Dianne loved being around people of all ages and served her church and community in many ways. She played flute in the church orchestra for 20 years and also led children's activities on Wednesday nights for many years. Community roles included serving on the Homeowner's Association Board for her neighborhood and also serving as an advisor for her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta at the University of West Georgia for multiple recent years. She served in roles at the children's schools where she could give back and see them during their school days. She loved being the room mom for their classes, often serving in this role for both children's classes during the same school year, as well as coordinating library volunteers for the schools.

Her family was everything to her. Once Dianne found out they were expecting their first child, she quit her job to focus on being a stay-at-home mom, a role she loved and cherished. To her husband and kids, she provided for their every need. To them, she was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman: supportive, encouraging, wise, kind, virtuous, modest, humble, honorable, faithful, strong, charitable, giving, loving, gave her all, never gave up, hardworking, brave, praiseworthy, trustworthy, compassionate, loyal, selfless, caring, confident - fearing only God.

Dianne was preceded in death by her beloved father, Dan Whitmire. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her mother, Carolyn Whitmire; her devoted husband and best friend, Tommy Orr; her children, Davis Orr (Karis) and Kelley Orr (Jack Whalen), who were the joy of her life; her brother and friend, Brook Whitmire (Jennifer); and many other loving family.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Briarlake Church, 3715 LaVista Road, Decatur, Georgia 30033, on Wednesday October 08, 2025 at 1:00 PM. Her family will host a reception following her service at Briarlake Church. A private interment will be held at Floral Hill Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at https://www.justgiving.com/page/dianne-orr?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL . Dianne spent many years clipping out the missing children section of papers and praying over those kids.
