Dianne Reeves passed away on April 26, 2025, at her home at Montclair Assisted Living facility in Decatur, Ga. She was born on September 28, 1946, in Memphis, TN to William Thomas and Tommie Francis Green Sowell. She was a member of Waynesville, NC First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles and two sons Jonathan and Christopher. She is also survived by brothers William Thomas Sowell Jr, and Stephen Sowell, and sister Carol Hokason.
She received her education at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, AR, earning a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees. She met husband while in college. After her graduation in 1968 she and her new husband moved to Missouri where she taught high school Social Studies for two years, before spending one year as a high school counselor in Arkansas. She then accompanied her husband to Germany where he served in the United States Army. Following his service they moved to Atlanta where their children were born.
While helping to raise their two children, Dianne taught preschool at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church and helped establish and was the first director of the Glenn After School Program.
After retirement in 2005 she and her husband spent several years enjoying their mountain home overlooking Waynesville, NC. Due to health concerns they returned to Atlanta in 2021, moving into Clairmont Place Independent Living facility before her move to assisted living. Dianne enjoyed painting, traveling across the US and Europe, and playing trivia with friends and family.
