Dorothy Jean Penman

Dorothy Grant of Birmingham, Alabama, received her wings on November 13, 2023. She was a devoted Christian that always made it a priority to put her faith first and into action. Additionally, she was baptized at First Baptist Church in Ensley, Alabama.

Dorothy met her former husband Darby Penman in Ensley, Alabama. Their union brought forth two illustrious son's, DeShawn Penman and Darvin Penman, and seven grandchildren, Kayla Schneider, Kiara Schneider, Darvin Penman Jr, Christion Baxter, Darielle Penman, Cassidy Penman, Izaiah Majors and Zekiah White. She loved her grandchildren tremendously and they meant the world to her. "Family First" was Dorothy's Mantra and she lived by it: day in and day out.

Dorothy graduated Hayes High School in Birmingham, Alabama. After graduation Dorothy set her eyes on personal and professional growth by relocating to Detroit, Michigan. In Detroit she became infatuated with the auto industry and set out for a position with General Motors. Dorothy was hired in no time and excelled in several positions within the company. After working more than 32+ years she retired and began living her life of rest, relaxation and grandchildren.

Dorothy leaves precious moments and memories to; her oldest son, DeShawn Penman; her youngest son, Darvin Penman; seven grandchildren, Kayla, Kiara, Darvin Jr., Christion, Darielle, Cassidy, Izaiah and Zekiah; sisters, Bernice Averhart, Delois Hawkins, Geraldine Reddick, Teresa Pernell, Angela Yancey and Diane Yancey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends, that she loved dearly.
