Dorothy Louise (Wright) Smith, 82, of Decatur, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 2, 2026. Born November 9, 1943; she was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Smith, III; her parents, Newton Marcellus Wright, Jr. and Jane Elizabeth (Johnson) Wright and her brother Newton Marcellus Wright, III.
Known affectionately as "Dot," she devoted her life to service and caring for others. She attended Georgia Baptist Nursing School and worked as a nurse at Dekalb General Hospital, Crawford Long Hospital, and Georgia Baptist Hospital. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and an active member of the Junior League of Dekalb County, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Rock Springs Presbyterian Church, Civitan, Girl Scouts of America and the Callanwolde Arts Guild.
She is survived by her brother John Wesley Wright, her children William P. Smith, IV, and Marcelle Elizabeth (Smith) Davis (Shepherd A. Davis); grandchildren, Ansley Key (Davis) Waddell (Hayden C. Waddell), William Patrick Smith, V (Justice Walker Smith), Colin Wingfield Davis (Isabella Davis-Rojas) and McKinley Adams Davis (Cassie Rudolph Davis); and great-grandchildren, Rowan Connor Waddell, River Patrick Waddell, William Patrick Smith VI, Seraphina-Sol Key Waddell, Mathias Wingfield Davis-Rojas, and Willow Patricia Smith.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur.
Family will recieve friends Friday, January 9, from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM with funeral services at 12:00 p.m., followed by Burial at Decatur Cemetery.
