Dorothy Lowry Rembert was born on September 8, 1925. She spent her first almost 95 years in Texas before moving to Atlanta for her last four years. She passed away on July 12, 2024. "TOT" as she was affectionately called, was the second daughter of Arminda Winifred Collins and Oren Martin Lowry.
When she started Highland Park High School she got a copy of the yearbook and memorized everyone's picture so she could greet one and all by name, popular or not, which made her popular. She was elected both a favorite and a cheerleader in her junior year and always described age 16 as the best year of her life. No one ever told her that she was elected as a cheerleader for just one year, so for the rest of her life she continued to cheer up people with a smile and a humorous remark!
The carefree joy of high school was interrupted by the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
She attended Southern Methodist University majoring in English and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Tot worked for the Braniff Airlines office after college.
Tot married Russell Rembert in 1952. They had four children. Baby Beth died on her first birthday but Steve, Julie and Dianne are still alive.
Tot was a homemaker, with time to serve in Junior League, Highland Park Presbyterian Church Women's Bible Study, on the board of Dean Memorial Home for Children, and a buyer for the Children's Medical Center gift shop (got to spend someone else's money for a good cause!)
Tot is survived by 3 children:
Russell Stevenson Rembert Jr (Betsy)
Julie Rembert Moore
Dianne Rembert Enas (Rob)
9 grandchildren:
Michael Rembert (Bonnie)
Jonathan Rembert
Susan Rembert
Jennifer Rembert Washburn (John)
Alex Rembert (Kamille)
Brianna Marie Moore
Nicole Enas
Sarah Enas
Emily Enas
And their spouses and loved ones plus 12 great grandchildren.
The Atlanta Memorial Service will be held at North Avenue Presbyterian Church on Sunday, August 18th at 12:10 pm in the sanctuary.
Donations may be made to the North Avenue Presbyterian Church food fund #583030 or
Use whatever money you would have given to make someone else smile, bring joy to another person, help a fellow human being you know or don't know... and then if you feel like it drop a note to Steve or Dianne and tell us what you did in Tot's honor. Mother would be pleased with people who loved her reaching out and touching someone else in memory of her.
