Dozier Robson Howard Sr., 72, of Decatur passed away at his home on June 19, 2025.
He was born at Emory Hospital in Decatur, Georgia on February 11, 1953, the son of Caroline Hill Ridley Howard and Pierre du Vinage Howard Sr. He lived his whole life in Decatur, a place that he loved. While attending Decatur High School, he became an Eagle Scout, shined as a star tennis player, and led the men's basketball team to a state title. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, serving as Eminent Archon (president) by election of his fraternity brothers. Upon graduating, he returned home and began a career in construction and land appraisal, spending many of those years working for his dear friend, Clay Weibel. His greatest joy in life came from his children, Lindsey and Dozier, and his grandson Porter, whom he was immensely proud of.
He was a deeply loved and devoted son, father, grandfather and brother, and the care he gave to his mother, brothers and children gave him the family name "Faithful Dozier". He always put others before himself, and his warm heart, magnetic personality, genuine kindness and great sense of humor earned him countless lifelong friends. He was a joyous, bright light in the lives of all who knew him, and he approached every relationship with unwavering love and dedication. A lifelong Georgia Bulldog fan of legendary proportion, he once said while walking on the Harvard University yard, "Well, it's not as pretty as North Campus!" Through victories and defeats, his loyalty to the UGA football team was unshakable, and he bled red and black through and through.
His mother, Caroline Ridley Howard of Decatur, lived to the age of 100, and Dozier was her principle caretaker in the family. His devotion to his mother and his children was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment with them. His friends and family always knew that if they had trouble, the first person they could call was Dozier. He gave of himself without thought or question, freely and selflessly, without hope or expectation of anything in return.
He is survived by his former wife, Barbara Marshall Howard of Decatur and their two children, Lindsey Howard Braren and her husband, Fritz Braren of Jacksonville, FL and Dozier Robson Howard, Jr. of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John Ridley Howard. He is survived by his grandson Porter Howard Braren of Jacksonville, FL, his brother Pierre Howard Jr. and his wife, Nancy B. Howard of Atlanta, his sister-in-law Pam Camp Howard of Atlanta, his nieces, Elizabeth Howard Newton and Caroline Howard of Atlanta, and his nephews, Ridley Howard, Jr. of Athens, GA, and Christopher Howard of Atlanta.
