Listen to Obituary

Mr. Edward Carey Strange of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at South Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 87.

Born on September 17, 1938, to the late Edward Strange and the late Edith Strange, he grew up in Decatur, Georgia, graduating from Decatur High School in 1956. He earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech (1963), and later continued his education, earning a master's degree in science and engineering management from Florida Institute of Technology (1984.) Ed served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1963-1966. While serving, he was part of the naval embargo during the Cuban missile crisis.

He married Linda Fisher Strange in 1968, and following time working for Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Georgia, he worked for the Atlanta Army Depot from 1968-1970. Ed and Linda relocated to Huntsville, Alabama in 1970 where he began his long tenure working for the United States government at Redstone Arsenal until his retirement in 2002. Following retirement, he contracted for CAS, now KBR-Wyle, for another 18 years, completing his time there in 2020 at the age of 82.

Ed was an avid reader and an active member of Weatherly Heights Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as an usher for many years. He and his wife loved to travel and visited many places across the United States, as well as Canada and Mexico. One of their favorite spots was beautiful Ashville, North Carolina, where they enjoyed staying at the historic Grove Park Inn.

A devoted husband, he and his wife, Linda, shared 57 wonderful years. He is also survived by his brother, John Strange (Connie); brother-in-law, Fred Fisher (Patsy); sister-in-law, Judy Collins (George, deceased); as well as many nieces and nephews to whom he was fondly known as Uncle Carey. He will be missed by his wife, friends, and relatives, and will be remembered for his sweet nature and dry sense of humor.

Linda would like to express her gratitude to the loving staff and caregivers at South Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, as well as the wonderful people at Hospice of North Alabama.

Visitation with family will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama, followed by the funeral service in the chapel.
