Edwinna Spivey

Edwinna Spivey went home to be with the Lord on May 23, 2025 at the age of 83. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend.

Martha Edwinna Murphey was born on April 22, 1942 in Atlanta, Georgia. The daughter of Milledge and Grace (Nee McLellan) Murphey. She held degrees from Stetson University (BA, cum laude, 1964) and Emory University (M.Ed., 1979). She and her husband Verley were married in 1964.

She taught Developmental Studies and GED at Gerogia Piedmont Technical College.

She was an active member of Briarlake Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and English as a second language.

She was a member of Dogwood Toastmasters for many years and received the Distinguished Toastmasters Award as well as Toastmaster of the year.

She was an avid traveler and had visited all seven continents and eighty-six countries.

She enjoyed hosting dinner parties, English country dancing, reading, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her parents and her son, Ethan Spivey. She is survived by her husband, Verley J. Spivey; her brother, Milledge Murphey; her sisters Jeannie Cawthon; her daughter and son-in-law, Pilar and Alfie Meek, and Woody Spivey; and her granddaughter, Maggie Spivey.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Briarlake Baptist Church, 3715 LaVista Road, Decatur, GA 30033.

A memorial service will be held at Briarlake Baptist Church on Friday, June 13, 2025 at 1 o'clock in the afternoon in the chapel with a reception to follow.
