Eldridge A. Gilbreath, age 88, of Stone Mountain passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Gil was born March 25, 1925 in Double Springs, Alabama. His parents were Calvin Avery Gilbreath and Jewel Dora Persall. He married Hazel Lorraine Glover of Double Springs on May 30, 1943. He and Hazel were married almost 70 years. Gil was in the finance business and owned several loan companies including Ideal Finance and Central Finance. He was one of the founding members of the Georgia Industrial Loan Association (GILA) and honored with an award bearing his name called the E. A. Gilbreath Workhorse Award and given a statue on June 23, 2007 bearing this quote: To accomplishing great things, we must not only act, but also dream. Not only plan, but also believe. Eldridge moved to Atlanta from Alabama in 1953. He became President of GILA in 1959. He was active for 55 years in Columbia Drive Baptist Church with pastor Don Aderhold. He was a Mason for 45 years and its Treasurer for many of those years. Gil is preceded in death by his mother and father, Jewel and Calvin and his son David Frank. He is survived by his beautiful bride of 70 years, Hazel Lorraine, his loving daughter, Cynthia Lynn Barton and husband John of Stockbridge; his sister, Evelyn McDowell of Anniston, Alabama; granddaughter Melanie Ford of Dunwoody and grandson Michael Theron Keen of Stockbridge; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Nathan and Haley Ford.
