Betty Addison February 13, 1929 - April 27, 2025
Mildred Elizabeth "Betty" Addison, née Smith, born February 13, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia, passed into eternal rest on April 27, 2025, at the age of 96. A beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Betty lived a long life filled with curiosity, kindness, and just the right amount of sass.
She was educated in Atlanta's public schools and went on to attend Wesleyan College, where she nurtured her love of learning and built lifelong friendships.
Betty worked for many years as a ticket agent for Delta Air Lines, which suited her perfectly - she liked people, loved travel, and never minded telling someone exactly where to go (politely, of course).
A lifelong devoted Methodist, Betty found a deep sense of meaning and belonging in the community of the United Methodist Church, where her faith was a source of comfort and strength throughout her life. Betty was baptized at Druid Hills United Methodist Church and was a faithful member there through its closure and merger into Neighborhood Church. In recent years, she joined Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ann, her brothers Bob and Paul, and her husband, Jim Addison. She is survived by her cousins Mary Anne Wilson, Barbara Wright, John Elvig, Carey Allen, David Allen, Chip Allen and; her nieces Cindy Smith and Sharon White; her nephew Cole Smith; and many extended cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Betty will be remembered for her warmth, her witty stories, her unwavering dedication to those she loved, and the quiet care she shared with all who knew her. She was also a lifelong cat lover, and there was rarely a time in her life when she didn't have a feline companion, usually named after a Georgia political figure.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31st at 2:00 p.m. at A.S. Turner & Sons Chapel, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory may be made to Wesleyan College or Oak Grove United Methodist Church, both of which held deep personal significance to her.
