Evie was born and raised in Germantown, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Georgia Scarmoutsos, and brother, Andrew Scarmoutsos Evie is survived by her two sons, John Pappas and Manuel Pappas and her brother, Peter Scarmoutsos.
Her father, Manuel, was the National GOYA President in 1961 and Supreme Counsel for the Order of Ahepa where Evie was able to attend many National Conventions and make life long friends.
Evie attended Germantown High School and afterward Sea Isle Vocational College. She then became a store manager at Service Merchandise in Memphis, Tennessee. Later she moved to Atlanta, Georgia and married George Pappas and bore two beautiful sons. She was involved at the Cathedral teaching Sunday School and helping out the Daughters of Penelope and Philoptichos whenever she was able.
In the year 2000, her brother Andrew was murdered in Memphis and Evie had to take the roll of being a constant support for her family during that difficult time.
In 2010, six months after her father died , she had a horrific car wreck which left her paralyzed from the waist down and later developed MS where she constantly had tremors in her hand. She lived the last 14 years of her life in a Gerry chair, had to be fed and was a total care patient. Her brother Peter had to step up to the plate and take care of her whenever he could. He never regretted coming to see her once a month, take her out in his handicap van for a spa day getting her hair cut and colored and then returning her back to the nursing home.
He talked to Evie on Tuesday night at 8:00pm and told her he was coming to see her the next day. 3 hours later the nursing called him to say that Evie passed away in her sleep. The Good Lord gave him the opportunity to say goodbye to his best friend.
May her memory be eternal.
