Obituary for Evelyn A. Hull (July 26, 1927 - August 18, 2026)
"I HAVE HAD AN INTERESTING AND GREAT LIFE"
Evelyn Celeste Ayers Hull passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, shortly after her 99th birthday. The only daughter of Blonnie Barden Ayers and Ernest Joseph Ayers, Evelyn was born on July 26, 1927 at her grandfather's home in Toccoa, GA. She lived in Toccoa as a child and later moved to Chamblee, where she graduated high school in 1944. Following her graduation from Shorter College with a bachelor's degree in biology in 1948, she worked as a medical technologist at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta for 34 years.
She married William Harding Hull, Jr. in 1950 and they remained happily married for 60 years until his death in 2010. During their life they traveled all over the world. When she was not traveling, she loved hosting bridge parties, painting, knitting, and creating beautiful tatted lace and pine needle baskets. Her love of gardening led her to serve as president of the Valley Garden Club. She was passionate about helping senior citizens through her work at Life Enrichment Services, where she volunteered for years, eventually serving on the Board of Trustees and as president. With all her many accomplishments, she was most proud of her son, Richard Harding Hull, who she loved deeply, and her four grandchildren. During her life, she and her husband were devoted members of the Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, where she attended services for over 60 years.
Her family is deeply grateful to her many wonderful caregivers who helped her live a dignified life in her final years.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband William Harding Hull, Jr., her brother Ernest Ayers, and her granddaughter Anna Hull. She is survived by her son Richard Hull (Candy), her granddaughters Melissa Swift Hull (Dan), Becky Hull, Ruth Felt (Kevin), and her three great-grandaughters Juliana, Adalyn, and Nadia Felt.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 22nd at 1pm, followed by a funeral service at 2pm at A.S. Turner and Sons in Decatur. A small burial service will be held at Arlington Cemetery in Sandy Springs on Monday, August 24th at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church (https://www.glennumc.org/give).
