Fannie Mae Collier was born in Robinson Creek, Kentucky on April 16, 1933, to James Monroe Potter of Pikeville, Kentucky and Jessie Brown Potter of Yeager, Kentucky. She graduated from Virgie, Kentucky High School in 1951. While in high school, she played drums in the marching band.

Fannie Mae married Art Collier of New York City, and they had two sons Steven David Collier and Gregory Solomon Collier. The family moved to the Atlanta area in 1964, where Fannie Mae lived the rest of her life.

Fannie Mae worked as a typist part-time when the boys were young and then full time when they were older. She loved reading mystery novels, watching the antics of Barney Fife on The Andy Griffith Show and above all rooting for her beloved Atlanta Braves baseball team.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, her brother Howard Potter, her sisters Hazel May, Helen Newsom, Dallas Roberts, Virginia Flannery, Dee Tackett and Sally Hall and her son Greg. She is survived by her son Steve, daughter in law Barbara Collier, grandchildren Art Collier, David Collier and Allison Collier and great grandchildren Eloise Collier, Eleazar (Eli) Collier and Mercy Mae Collier.
