On July 13, 2026, God called Frank H. Crumpler to his heavenly home, just one day shy of his 91st birthday. This final calling was Frank's highest, though other callings defined and shaped his life. At age 14 he was called to be a preacher of the gospel. His life was also defined by the calling to what became a 66-year marriage to Glenda, which was blessed by being a father to three children and a patriarch to a growing family that now includes seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Frank was a graduate of Wake Forest University, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, VA where he received his Doctor of Ministry degree. An energetic preacher and evangelist at heart, Frank spoke with passion inviting people to embrace the grace of God in Jesus Christ. His pastoral ministry started during his seminary days at the Dilworth Baptist Mission, a church plant of the First Baptist Church of Charlotte, NC. From there he served churches in Durham, NC, Monroe, NC, Camden, SC, Richmond, VA, Chattanooga, TN, and retired from the First Baptist Church of Sarasota, FL. In 1973 he transitioned into a ministry focused more on denominational evangelism efforts, first with Virginia Baptists and later the Home Mission Board of the SBC (now North American Mission Board). He is the author of seven books that include personal memoir, poetry, reflections on grief, and devotionals for the sick.
While his preaching bore much fruit, the deepest and most lasting impact of his life was on those closest to him who knew him as husband, Dad, "Pa Pa." We will remember a man who loved to hunt and be on horseback, build a fire at the house in Ridgecrest, go to movies, work outdoors or with his hands, write on a legal pad and index cards kept next to his chair, and tell "preacher jokes" that were fit for the pulpit and got a laugh even when they weren't funny.
Frank is survived by his wife Glenda Rosser Crumpler, son Mark Crumpler (Marnie), daughter Miriam Statham (Rick), and son Michael Crumpler; Grandchildren Charles Staham, Lauren Petersen (Brian), Ben Statham (Maddie), John Crumpler (McKenzie), Anna Reed (Jon Paul), Jaimee Crumpler, and Kaytee Crumpler; Great grandchildren Julianne, Marileigh, Statham, and Thomas Petersen.
A service will be held on Thursday, July 23 at 2:00pm at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road, Atlanta 30305. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the building funds of Salem Baptist Church, (McDonough, GA), or GRACE Church Bethlehem (Bethlehem, PA).
