Gardner Marion Chambliss, 81, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at Emory University Hospital Hospice Ward in Atlanta, Georgia. Born on May 7, 1944, in Vancouver, Washington, Gardner lived a life defined by deep devotion to family, service to others, and a tireless passion for science and education.
He was the beloved son of Marion Chambliss and Emily Ione Gardner, and older brother to Jacob "Ray" Chambliss, born in 1948. Gardner married the love of his life, Peggy Jo Webb, on April 28, 1973, in Tampa, Florida. Together they built a life grounded in love, curiosity, and a shared commitment to community.
Gardner earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and spent his entire career working as an electrical and systems engineer.
Passionate about nurturing future generations of innovators, Gardner dedicated over two decades to mentoring students in the Midtown High School Robotics Club, which he helped found. He was a steadfast supporter and longtime volunteer for FIRST Robotics.
An active member of his community, Gardner served as Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America Troop 455 and was honored to be a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was also a devoted member of Haygood United Methodist Church in Atlanta since 1990.
Above all else, Gardner was most proud of his family. He adored his wife and son, and their love for one another was the center of his life. His warmth, wisdom, and unwavering dedication will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Emily Chambliss.
He is survived by Peggy, his wife of 52 years, their son Scott Alfred Chambliss, and his brother Ray.
A celebration of Gardner's life will be held at Haygood United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 4th at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Midtown High School Robotics Team, Midtown High School Aerial Robotics Team, or Haygood United Methodist Church.
