Gavin Worth Jones

March 7, 1935 — January 10, 2022

Gavin W. Jones, age 86, passed away on January 10, 2022, after an extended illness. He was born in March, 1935, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Rev. Dr. E.A. Pollard Jones and Eleanor Ames Jones. Gavin grew up in Freeport, NY and Stamford, CT where his father served as a pastor and D.S. in the United Methodist Church. Gavin attended The Forman School, The College of Wooster, and Georgia Institute of Technology.  After serving four years in the Air Force at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska, he made his home in Atlanta, GA, where he was employed by 3M Company. Gavin is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jane S. Jones, and their children, Michele Hunter and her husband, Joe, of Auburn, AL, and Heather Harden and her husband, Jimmy, of Marietta, GA. Gavin found joy in his grandchildren Dylan and Noah Hunter, and Samantha and Jackson Harden. Gavin is also survived by his sister, Martha Kaulbach and her husband, George, his nieces, Suzanne Kaulbach and Laurie Oldroyd, and was preceded in death by his nephew Duncan Kaulbach. The family will celebrate Gavin’s life during a private service at Northside United Methodist Church where he was a member for over 40 years. Friends and family will remember Gavin’s commitment and love for his family (including his four-legged puppy girls), his unshakeable integrity, his ability to be a good listener and provide helpful advice. He will be remembered as dependable, resourceful, and always willing to share his tools, gadgets, and interesting stories. Those who knew Gavin will smile fondly when remembering his wonderful sense of humor and notable, booming laugh. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Gavin’s name to Northside United Methodist Church.
