George Mortimer Douglas

It is with both heavy and joyful hearts that we celebrate the life of George Mortimer Douglas, aged 91, who passed away Monday, July 27, 2026, at The Retreat Memory Care Unit, Decatur, Georgia where he had been living for 2 months. George always modeled how mere humans can be used by Jesus as His hands, feet, encouragement, support, guidance, and most of all His love.

George attended Blessed Trinity grade school and Ocala High School graduating in 1953. As a senior, George was selected to be President of the Key Club which gave him the opportunity to go to Washington DC and meet vice-president Humphrey. After attending the University of Florida, George served in the Navy aboard the Forestall. He moved to Atlanta, where he lived for approximately 65 years, starting his career as a financial manager, spending the last 10 years of his career with Hyatt & Rhodes.

George was a gentle, humble, wise, Godly man who built a strong, loving family, being survived by his wife of 30 years, Babs, and his seven children, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild George leaves behind a legacy of building family in a way that glorifies Christ, a family of welcomed children born of him, adopted by him, inherited by him through marriage, and embraced by him through relationships with his children, or befriended by him as brothers and sisters in Christ. All were simply his family and when you were privileged to be with him you knew it. As a husband George modeled a servant-leader's heart. His joy was to give of himself in any way needed to all who God brought across his path.

George was a cradle Catholic, and actively involved in several churches in Atlanta, exhibiting his strong Christian faith in life and service, including St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Corpus Christi Catholic Church, and currently Holy Cross Catholic Church.

It is because George's life was grounded in and centered on Jesus as his Lord and Savior that we are confident in his heavenly reward. He led many to Christ. He shepherded many more in their faith. He wove a tapestry of prayer which covered all that Christ brought to him. He fought the good fight, he finished the race and he kept the faith. We are therefore confident he has been received into his Eternal Life and heard the words, "Well done good & faithful servant".

Celebrating George's arrival in heaven is his sister Betty, her husband Howard Trumm, son-law, Bob Price, and a great company that went before him.

Rest in the peace of Christ your Lord, George, and enjoy the heavenly banquet laid out to welcome you. Until we meet again, we simply say we love you, we miss you. Thank you for enriching our lives.
