George Guinn Cherry, 81, of Atlanta Died May 15, 2012. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on February 18, 1931. When he was an infant, his family moved to Estill Springs, TN, where he lived until he was 16 years of age before moving back to Chattanooga. He served four years in the US Air Force during the Korean War and then attended the University of Tennessee where he earned his BS degree in Business Administration with an accounting curriculum. He held several positions with National Dairy Products Corporation before holding a position for four years in the headquarters of their Kraft Foods Division in Chicago. Desiring to return to the South, he went with Sears Roebuck in 1967 and retired in Atlanta from Sears after serving 25 years as a controller and then enjoyed membership in the Atlanta Senior Golfers Association. He was a dedicated Lions Club member for years. He was a member of the Saint James United Methodist Church, Atlanta. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Everhart Cherry of Atlanta; brothers, William Edward Cherry, Jr. of Kennesaw, GA and Donald Harvey Cherry of Lascassas, TN; sister, Frances Louella Spencer of Carmel, IN. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, May 24th with Rev. Jonathan Holston officiating at St. James United Methodist Church, 4400 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, Atlanta, GA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. James United Methodist Church of a charity of your choice. A reception will follow after the service in the church parlor.
