George Marvin (Bubba) Wilson

February 17, 1933 — June 16, 2007

George Marvin "Bubba" Wilson died peacefully early on the morning of June 16, 2007, after a long illness. A graduate of Decatur Boys' High, he received a degree in Business Administration from Georgia State University in 1957 and worked for the Internal Revenue Service unti1 1984. Afterwards he built houses for five years with Larry Morris and Associates. "Bubba" was a lifelong resident of Decatur. He was instrumental in organizing lunch-time reunions of his many friends. Any graduate of Decatur Boys' High was welcome, but he was especially glad to see members of his football team, which won state championships in 1949 and 1950 under Coach Charlie Waller. Family was first and foremost in his life. He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Mary Ann Watt Wilson, and two sons and their families: Jeff and Vanette Wilson and daughters Curry Ann, 14, and Janice Vandiver, 11, of Anderson, SC; and John Wilson and daughter Mary O'Malley Wilson, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Also dear to him were his sisters, Jean Wilson (Frank) Matthews, of Decatur, and Sally Wilson (Joe) Spinks, of Lavonia, and their families. He was a longtime member of Briarcliff United Methodist Church of Decatur. Visitation will be at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home on Monday, June 18, from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral service will be at Briarcliff United Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 19, at 11 AM, Bishop L. Bevel Jones and Dr. Sondra Jones presiding. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Briarcliff United Methodist Church, 4105 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta, GA, 30345, or to Eagle Ranch, PO Box 7200, Chestnut Mountain, GA 30502. A. S.
