Gerald Culberson

April 9, 1929 — May 15, 2025

Gerald Wall Culberson, age 96, on May 15, 2025, joyfully crossed the Jordan River into the Promised Land to join his beloved wife of 70 years, Lois Harmon Culberson, who predeceased him by five years. He and his wife had four sons of whom they were very proud: Gerald Geoffrey (Dottie), Gregory Harmon (Michelle), Mark Wall (Dana) and Timothy Young (Sarah). Additionally, they had nine grandchildren: Brent, Jeremy, Matthew, Robert, Sumer, McKay, Rachel, Ruby, and Renee; as well as twelve great-grandchildren: Tristan, Lily Grace, Emma, Haddon, Charlotte, Lucy, William, Penelope, Ellie, Josie, Ela, and Emre.

Mr. Culberson had a Master of Arts degree in English and began teaching in the Atlanta school system at the outbreak of the Korean War. He joined the US Navy as an air intelligence officer and served on the aircraft carrier USS Boxer in Korean waters and later deployed to the carrier USS Wasp, also assigned to Korean waters and later to Japan, China, Vietnam, and the Philippine Islands. Lt. Culberson returned to the Atlanta school system as a principal at Sylvan Hills High School. Subsequently, he accepted a position as an Admissions Head at Dekalb College and later as a dean at Georgia Perimeter College. In retirement, he and Lois spent many months in the United Kingdom and Eastern Europe. On many trips they were joined by a number of their children and grandchildren.

In his later years, after the death of Lois, he pursued many neglected hobbies. Being a strong believer in Jesus Christ led him to be a lifelong Presbyterian and a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church for many years. Mr. Culberson has kept his wife's urn next to him with plans to have her ashes mixed with his and both of them to be buried together at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
