Gordon H. Levi, 85, of Johns Creek, GA, formerly of Pensacola, passed away December 19, 2022. Gordon leaves behind a proud legacy and lifetime commitment to family, friends and the community. Born June 16, 1937 to Charles and Rachel Levi of Addison, NY, Gordon received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the State University College of New York at Oswego, and a Master’s Degree from the State University College at Buffalo.
Prior to active duty with the Navy in 1968, he taught Industrial Arts at Gates-Chili High School located outside of Rochester, NY and in 1963 became Assistant Professor of Industrial Arts at the State University College at Buffalo.
As a senior in high school Gordon joined the U. S. Naval Reserve, was commissioned an Ensign in 1964 and went on active duty in 1968. While in the Navy he served on five different ships and duty stations at Cheltenham and Fort Meade, Maryland, Pensacola, Florida, Okinawa, and Diego Garcia. Among the many recognitions Gordon received during his naval career was the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring in 1985 as a Lieutenant Commander with 30 years in the Navy, Gordon became production manager at the ARC Pollak Industries in Pensacola.
Gordon once said “What makes life interesting is to see the harmony” of things. He remained inquisitive throughout his life and had many hobbies and interests including photography, motorcycles, and running. He was active in the Pensacola Runners Club, Gulf Coast Arts Festival, British Car Club, Quayside Art Gallery and was a founding member of Blue Morning Gallery as well as the Pensacola Lighthouse Association. Gordon was raised Methodist and remained a member of First United Methodist Church of Pensacola. One of his most gratifying accomplishments was designing and building two stained glass windows for Trinity Presbyterian
Church based on the 23rd Psalm in memory of a friend. Gordon also designed and painted Jeremiah Pelican, which is located at the Pensacola Lighthouse and honors the lighthouse’s history.
In 2012, Gordon and his wife Dianne moved to Georgia to be near family but continued to keep close ties to Pensacola.
Predeceased besides his parents are brothers Robert, Charles, sister in-law Mary Levi, sister Augusta Haire, brother-in-law Arden Haire and daughter Pamela.
Surviving are his wife Dianne of 62 years, son Andrew (Leticia); daughter Cynthia Cooper (Garrett); grandchildren Tara Cooper, Eric Cooper, Ethan Cooper and Charlotte Green; niece Lauren Levi.
Burial will be at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pensacola Lighthouse Association.
