Gwendolyn McKee Bays, 96, of Hilton Head Island S.C., wife of the late Robert A. Bays Sr., passed away on Wednesday May 15, 2013 after a full and remarkable life. She was a retired professor of French literature and had an abiding interest in Buddhism and Eastern mysticism. She was the author of The Orphic Vision and translator of the book, The Voice of the Buddha from the original French. She is survived by her brother, John M. McKee, her two sons, Robert A. Bays, Jr. and Geoffrey A. Bays; grandchildren, Kelley Rossier and Adam Bays, and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons, on Saturday, May 25 at 2 PM. An additional memorial service is also planned at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Lowcountry, 110 Malphrus Rd, Bluffton, SC 29910 on Saturday September 21, 2013 at 2 PM. A public viewing is scheduled for Friday, May 24 from 6 PM to 8 PM at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 2773 N. Decatur Rd; Decatur, GA 30033.
