Hubert Smith Byers

Mr. Hubert Smith Byers, 90, of Dallas, GA died Thursday, April 20, 2007. He worked on the Blue Ridge Parkway as a young man. He was with the U. S. Civil Service for 33 years working at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds for Weapons as a carpenter. He then worked with the Joppatown High School for 10 years as a Maintenance Engineer. Mr. Byers was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Mt. Ararat Masonic Lodge #44 F. & A. M., Bel Air, MD. He was also a member of Scottish Rite, Baltimore, MD. He was a former deacon at Maple View Baptist Church and Edgewood Baptist Church in Maryland. He was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church in Stone Mountain He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Dare Eller; parents, Talmadge Ralph Byers and Tessie Mae Parsons of Parlear, NC; and 2 grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Ralph H. Byers of Bear, DE; daughters, Virginia A. Wright of Blue Ridge, GA, Beth L. Gaunt of Dallas, GA, Norma J. Fleming of Bel Air, MD; half brother, Alfred Parsons of Abingdon, MD; half sisters, Ruby Brooks of Parlear, NC and Selma Dodd of Burlington, NC; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24th with Pastor Bill Owens officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
