James Conner

October 19, 1964 — June 10, 2025

James (Jim) Mathis Conner passed away on June 10, 2025, in Tucker, Georgia. His memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucker, followed by a graveside service at Rest Haven Cemetery in Monroe at 2 p.m.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Tyrus Roger Conner; his mother, Dorothy Ann Ellis; and his father, Roger Gale Conner. He is survived by his brother, Thomas Conner of Apalachicola, FL, and his daughter, Christina Conner of Fort Collins, CO.

Jim graduated from Georgia State University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. While pursuing his degree, he guided weekend rafting trips on the Nantahala and Ocoee Rivers, skillfully maneuvering class III and IV rapids.

He loved the outdoors-he often spent his weekends riding his motorcycle through the winding roads of Blue Ridge, tending his garden (especially his beloved impatiens), birdwatching, or exploring the trails of metro Atlanta.

He used his rich vocabulary to write poems reflecting life, love, culture, human nature, and sometimes even angel hair pasta. His taste in music spanned artists like U2, Collective Soul, and Nirvana.

Professionally, Jim was an expert in sales tax, with an encyclopedic knowledge of tax laws and regulations across the U.S. He was known by colleagues for his willingness to tackle tough challenges and for always being the first to lend a helping hand. His work even took him to Alaska.

Jim was a devoted father who never missed an opportunity to support others. Whether helping a neighbor mow the lawn, delighting a stranger with a random act of kindness, or simply offering a listening ear, he lived a life of service. He is remembered for his unwavering kindness, deep faith, and commitment to the teachings of Jesus.

Above all, Jim was devoted to God and his church community. He led his Sunday school class, the Fidelis Class, twice a month and loved sharing his extensive biblical knowledge with others. He also served as a deacon at his previous church, Tucker Christian.

Memorial donations can be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church or Birds Georgia.
