James Wendell Tomlinson Jr.

James Wendell Tomlinson, Jr., 59, passed away on April 10, 2026. Born in Florence, Alabama, James was the son of Wendell and Judith Ann Tomlinson. He is preceded in death by his mother, Judith Ann. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Wendy Posner Tomlinson, son, Jackson (Stephanie), daughters, Emily, Alaina, and Audrey (Jack), father, Wendell, brother, Thomas, and sister, Heather (Robert). He was a loving and doting grandfather to grandson, Silas, and granddaughter, Joan.

James attended Auburn University where he graduated with a degree in Building Science. It was there he met Wendy. They raised their four children in LaGrange, Georgia, where James worked in construction and facilities management. He served as a Deacon and the Chair of the House and Grounds Committee at First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange. Upon moving to Decatur, he and Wendy joined North Decatur Presbyterian Church where James was recently elected an Elder. James worked with and led projects through the Habitat for Humanity and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Project.

James most enjoyed spending time with his family. He coached his children's soccer teams and enjoyed time outdoors hiking, running, and cycling with Wendy and his kids. In recent months, James travelled to visit his children and grandchildren and shared time oceanside with Wendy - moments he described as some of his biggest blessings. His kindness and generosity overflowed into all aspects of his life. James found immense purpose in giving to others - be it in service, council, or object.

A memorial service will take place at 3:00pm on Saturday, April 25 at North Decatur Presbyterian Church, 611 Medlock Road, Decatur. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Project. We are blessed by his memory.
