Mrs. Janice “Pat” Owen Presley, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed on March 2, 2009 at 80 years of age. Her maiden name was Janice Patricia Boyles, daughter of Isaac Wayman Boyles, Jr., a well known Atlanta sports promoter of the 1930’s, and Janice Goode Morgan Boyles, a great granddaughter of one of Atlanta’s earliest families, Major and Mrs. Joseph Harris Morgan, C.S.A., through their son Donald Goode Morgan and his wife Pearl Morgan. She attended Highland Elementary School and Bass High School and married Richard Clifford Owen, great grandson of Major John Jasper Owen of the 29th Georgia Infantry Regiment, C.S.A., a defender of Atlanta in Sherman’s 1864 campaign. Her second marriage later in life, after her first husband’s death in 1972 was to James C. Presley. Mrs. Presley was a member of Northeast Baptist Church, formerly a member of Embry Hills Methodist Church, and Avondale Patillo United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker who for several years enjoyed her service as a “Pink Lady” at DeKalb General Hospital, as well as her membership in the Baron DeKalb Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Lioness Society. She was predeceased by two husbands and her sister Betty Bee Boyles. She is survived by three sons, Richard Wayman Owen of Atlanta, Michael Brent and Catherine Owen of Athens, and David Patrick and Teri Owen of Ellijay; grandchildren, Andrea Owen Oliver, Richard Gregory Owen, Brian Thomas Owen, Anastasia Christina Owen, Anthony Brent Owen, Michael Chadwick Owen, David Patrick Owen, Jr., Courtney Margaret Chafin, Jeffrey Scott Owen; and nine great grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5th in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Rev. Brian Wright officiating. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday with family visitation 10 a.m. Thursday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
