Jeannine F Brice

October 19, 1930 — July 13, 2022

Jeannine Ferrill Brice went home to be with our Lord and Savior on July 13, 2022 at the age of 91 1/2.

She was born on October 19, 1930 to Allen and Willie Ferrill in Mobile, Alabama. The daughter of a feed salesman, she grew up on a farm and would often tell the stories of having a pet rooster when she was a child.

She and her husband, Lawrence, were married for 63 years and were residents of Avondale Estates, GA for 47 years, from 1968 to 2015. Jean and Lawrence met at the University of Alabama when she was an undergraduate and Lawrence was working towards his Master’s degree. They were married in Mobile in Alabama on June 29th, 1951 and moved to Atlanta. They joined Decatur First United Methodist Church in 1954 and were active members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class for over 60 years. They were very committed to their faith and church was important to them and to our family.

Jean’s passion was for her family and this was so evident by the way she cared for them and loved them.

Her family was very important to her and she was very proud of her three sons and their families. She leaves a legacy and a powerful example for all to follow of life-long commitment, nurturing, devotion, support, generosity, unconditional love and compassion for her husband and her family that is being carried on through her family to this day and will continue. She made sure that she always remembered everyone’s birthdays, anniversaries and other special events and she always recognized them with specially selected cards and phone calls.

Jean had a servant’s spirit and was most at home when she was serving others. She had a love for entertaining, preparing and serving meals and setting a beautiful table for her family and others. And she was always the first to start the calling tree when others were in need. She was truly the perfect hostess and a proper Southern Lady.

She was an avid bridge player and she and Lawrence belonged to about four different couple's groups. Through them she developed life-long friendships that are so rare these days. She was actually very good at card playing and was extremely competitive at it as well as with all other games.

Jean was very involved in the Avondale Community. She was a long time member of the Avon Garden Club and served as the President for many years. She later served as the Membership Chair and oversaw tremendous growth in numbers. In addition, she was a member of the Avondale Estates Women’s Club and of the Avondale Estates Community Club, where she led the bridge groups for many years.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Holland Brice. She is survived by her son James Ferrill Brice, his wife Shirley McGhee Brice and their children James Sanford Brice, his wife Reina Catherine Brice, and Janene Shirley Matusevich, her husband Brandon Matthew Matusevish; her son William Holland Brice, his wife Cathy Ballard Brice and their children Rachael Nichole Brice and Phillip Holland Brice; and her son Thomas Allen Brice, his wife Leah Vinson Brice and their children Sarah Brice Post, her husband Jonathon Robert Post, Samuel Lawrence Brice and Harrison Vinson Brice; and six great grandchildren.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Wednesday July 20, 2022, at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, GA, led by Randy Rainwater. Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and the service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Floral Hills Memory Gardens located at 3000 Lawrenceville Highway across from Rehoboth Baptist Church. Pallbearers are Phillip Brice, Sam Brice, Harrison Brice, Jamey Brice, Jonathan Post and Larry Ballard.
