Jo Ann Beyer

Jo Ann Beyer, 63, of Lithonia GA, passed away July 17, 2011, of natural causes. Born in Birmingham, Al, and raised in southeast Atlanta, she attended Gordon High School and was a graduate of the class of 1966. She was a member of the Glee Club, played basketball and tennis and was named Miss Senior. She attended the University of Georgia and graduated in 1972 with a Masters Degree in Health and Physical Education. Miss Beyer was an educator with the DeKalb County School System, teaching and coaching at Druid Hills High, Miller Grove Middle where she was named teacher of the year, and Henderson Middle School before retiring with 30 years of service in 2002. Jo Ann sang "on the wharf" at Dante's Down the Hatch in Underground Atlanta where many friends gathered throughout the years to enjoy the experience and pleasure of listening to her beautiful voice. A gentle heart, loving spirit, wonderful daughter, sister and friend, she touched the heart and lives of all who knew her. Miss Beyer was preceded in death by her father, Robert O. Beyer and is survived by her mother, Mary Ann Beyer of Tucker, Ga; sisters, Janet Beyer and Jeanne Beyer of Lilburn, GA, aunts, Anice Gibbs and Evelyn Lawler of Oneonta Al; and numerous cousins and loving friends. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, GA, on Saturday, July 23, 3:00 p.m. Following the service, please join family and friends to celebrate Jo Ann's life at the home of Shirley McDaniel. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to PAWS Atlanta or the Humane Society. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm prior to the service at A. S. Turner & Sons.
