Listen to Obituary

JoAnn Stewart, our kind, big hearted, gregarious Aunt died on Sunday May 17, 2026. JoAnn was born, raised and lived her 92 years in Atlanta, Ga. She never met a stranger. She loved people and treated everyone she met, from her dearest family/friends to the stranger she met in line at the grocery store as the precious human being they were. She saw the light and goodness in everyone who crossed her path. Acts of kindness were her strength: From making dinner for a sick friend, to befriending a new parishioner at church to making brownies for great nieces and nephews and grandchildren. And, how lucky we were that she was active and doing all of this and more up until the last year of her beautiful life.

JoAnn was proceeded in death by her parents Anna and Angelo Carberis; sisters Aglaia and brother-in- law Costa Moraitakis; Eleftheria and brother-in-law George Moraitakis; Her beloved husband Ed Stewart and son Barry Stewart.

She is survived by her 6 nieces and nephews, Nick, Pete, Ann Marie, Alexis, John and Mark. Two daughters, Nancy and Cindy she gained through her marriage to Ed. Numerous great nieces, nephews, great, great niece/nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends. Through the years, we have all benefited from JoAnn's unconditional love and zest for life. All our lives are certainly richer because of our Jo.

In recent months, JoAnn was fortunate enough to have excellent care when we could not be with her. Many thanks go to Meddi, Zufan, Helina, and Kabane for taking good care of and loving her like their own family. We appreciate the staff at Kingsbridge who looked after her. And most recently grateful for the care given to her by the medical staff at Emory Decatur Hospital and Longleaf Hospice. We trusted JoAnn was well cared for along her journey over the last year of her life.
