John Reese Dejarnette

John R. deJarnette, 87, of Decatur passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016. A life-long Methodist, Mr. deJarnette was a member of Decatur First Methodist Church. He served with the U.S. Army Reserves and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Known as a hard-worker and early-riser, Mr. deJarnette was employed by Cotton States Insurance Co, BP Oil Company, and later AT&T Yellow Page Services. Survivors include his wife, Estelle R. deJarnette; sister, Jeannette Culpepper; daughters Linda Marcet, Laura Morgan, Leila (Joe) Peacock; step-children Jan (Rick) Brumbelow, Jonathan Merritt, Mark Merritt, Carol (Mike) Minotti; 8 Grandchildren; 6 Great-Grandchildren; brothers-in law & sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home, Decatur. Interment will follow at Norcross City Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Decatur First Methodist Church.
