Joseph B. (Joe) Brown (November 20, 1937 - May 3, 2025) passed suddenly on May 3 while undergoing rehabilitation following a recent hospitalization. Born in Newark, New Jersey and raised in Milledgeville, Georgia to parents Lillian Klein Brown and Harry Brown, Joe graduated from the Georgia Military Academy and studied engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology before joining the U.S. Army Reserves. He spent his career working in building construction management for several companies: most notably, at Union Oil he supervised the construction and maintenance of gas stations across the Southeastern United States; later, with Jordan Jones, and Goulding he proudly oversaw the revitalization of the downtown square in Gainesville, GA.
Joe was married to Patricia (Pat) Davis Brown for almost 30 years. He is survived by two children, Lori and husband Martin (Syracuse, NY) and Michael (Decatur, GA), sister Nancy Daughtery (Brassleton, GA) and brother Philip (Milledgeville, GA).
Joe was an active member of Briarlake Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and Sunday School class director. Over the course of his life, he had also been a member of several volunteer organizations including the Masons, the Jaycees, the Optimist Club, and the Tucker LaVista Lion's Club. A generous man by nature, Joe made a priority of helping others, always ready to drive friends to appointments and visit the infirmed. Gregarious by nature, he frequently enjoyed chance encounters with friends and strangers wherever he went; he often shared during these moments that his personal goal was to make at least one person either smile or laugh each day.
A visitation will be held on Saturday June 21 at 12pm at Briarlake Baptist Church with a memorial service at 1pm, and a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Alzheimer's Association, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or the Tucker Lavista Lion's Club.
