Joe went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
Joseph Daniel Spinks was born on August 18, 1940, son of the late Louis and Myrtice Spinks. He graduated from Decatur High School and married his high school sweetheart, Sally. They began their married life in the Decatur area where Joe owned and operated his own business, Spinks Printing Company.
He built a thriving family business that is still successful today.
Joe never met a stranger. He could make anyone laugh and loved a good joke. His larger-than-life personality provided leadership, guidance, and comfort throughout his life to his family, friends and community. He served as the Southeast Regional director of The All-American Soap Box Derby, as an active member of the DeKalb County Jaycee's, as President of Briarcliff Community Sports, and as a Lay Director of the North Georgia walk to Emmaus. He was an active member of University Heights and Lavonia United Methodist Churches.
Upon retirement in 2004, he and Sally moved full time to their beloved Lavonia, Georgia on Lake Hartwell where he continued to be an active part of his community. He was a good neighbor and enjoyed the Hardee's breakfast get togethers with friends.
Joe loved his children and granddaughters deeply. He had special nicknames for each of them and loved being a part of their lives and activities. He was known as husband, father, PawPaw, Uncle Joe, and "a child of God"!
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sally Wilson Spinks; his daughter, Terry and his son-in-law, Justin Waterman; his son, Danny Spinks and his daughter-in-law, Lee Ann; his granddaughters Katie Beavers and her husband Trey; Ansley Bray and her husband Ryan; Madelyn Spinks and her very soon to be husband Phil; 7 great grandchildren-Powell Beavers, Clayton Beavers, Ryder Bray, Beau Beavers, Cooper Bray, Elisabeth Ann Beavers and McKinley Bray; his sister, Diane Cook and many loved nieces and nephews and their families.
